CST: Cariblue is participating in the Certification for Sustainable Tourism Program (CST) that was implemented by the Costa Rican government and the Costa Rican Institute for Tourism (ICT) to ensure the long-term sustainability of the tourism industry by evaluating the current sustainability of accommodations and encouraging improvements for the future.

Bandera Azul: Since the year 2002 Playa Cocles beach has reached the standards of the Bandera Azul Ecological Program, which is a program for environmental responsibility in Costa Rica. In order to keep the Ecological Blue Flag we must keep our waters and beaches clean and safe. Please be conscientious about litter on the beaches and keep our waterways clean.

Lifeguard Program: Cariblue is proud to support our local lifeguard program here in Playa Cocles. Local businesses have piched in to pay for lifeguards on the Beach Break, near Playa Cocles. Beach break is one of the most popular beaches in the area, and we are committed to help keeping it safe and clean. A lifeguard tower at beach break has been installed to make our program more effective. Young locals are hired and trained as lifeguards, and their salaries are entirely paid by donations from local businesses. Please help us to keep Playa Cocles safe by donating to our lifeguard fund. We would appreciate any amount you would care to donate at the front desk.

DANGEROUS BEACHBREAK, STRONG CURRENTS - RESPECT THE SEA BE CAREFUL!

Recycling: We recycle here at Cariblue! Please separate your bottles and cans from your garbage and place them in the marked recycle bins in your room or the parking lot. We really appreciate your cooperation.

ADELA: We support ADELA, the organization against the exploration for oil here in Costa Rica. Please support ADELA, and say NO to oil exploration off our shores.

Wildlife Refuges: Please be responsible and help to protect our wildlife refuges. Please observe the following guidelines - These activities are prohibited in our wildlife refuges:

* Removal of plants, trees or other products from the forest.

* Hunting or capturing wild animals or collecting any animal products.

* Touching coral, changing its place or submitting any form of stress to marine organisms as well as standing or passing over coral colonies.

* Collection of marine organisms or their products (shells, etc.)

* Introduction of foreign animals or plants.

* Causing any type of environmental contamination or pollution, including litter and dumping of ant form of toxic chemicals or substances.

* Giving any form of food or drink to animals

Vehicles at the beach: Any and all motorized vehicles are completely prohibited on any beach (Public Zone)

Turtle Eggs: Please help to protect the wild sea turtles, which are an endangered species and one of the great treasures of our oceans. Do not purchase any turtle eggs or other turtle, tortoise or caiman products, as these are illegally poached from the wildlife refuges.

Bird watching: We have a checklist with more than 120 species of bird’s observable within the hotel grounds. Ask for a copy at the reception.

ATV Adventures Safari Tour:
One of the best tours!!!
Visitors will ride through beautiful scenary over the Talamanca forest and mountains, and visit our local waterfall of unique beauty where you can take refreshment bath with a fruit snack, the tour continues to the indigenous communities where you can appreciate the native crafts.

You will need, swimming staff, sun block, repellent, sunglasses and good shoes!

ATV tours are fun and exciting for the whole family. ATV, are NOT allowed on the beaches.

Canopy Tours:
Swing through the treetops on 2560 mts. of cable through exquisite primary rainforest.

Snorkeling:
Snorkeling in Cahuita national park.
You visit the unique marine and terrestrial ecosystems of Cahuita Nathial Park by boat. The live coral reef includes more than 240 habitats, 123 different species of fishes, 44 species of crustaceous, 140 shellfish and 128 various algae identified. You also observe 35 different coral species such as the fire coral, and the red and black coral. In the park you can observe many animals such as two or three toed sloths, white face monkeys, and different types of crabs, morpho butterflies, birds and parrots.

Botanical garden:
See our amazing variety of local flora. Visitors to the botanical garden will see tropical flowering plants, medicines, spices, and over 60 kinds of fruit trees. Learn about chocolate production, black pepper, cinnamon. See the famous brightly colored poison dart frogs. The garden is set between corridors of rainforest with large upper canopy trees. There is a good possibility to see sloths, toucans, parrots, trogons, large butterflies etc. Learn about the rainforest and tropical perm culture. By bus from San Jose: By Public bus from San Jose: Upon your arrival at San Jose Airport go to the Taxi stand and for about $20.00 ask to be taken to: "Gran Terminal del Caribe." Bus tickets cost approximately $10.The bus company is “Mepe”

Bus Schedule:

By car from San Jose: The distance from San Jose to Puerto Viejo is 210 km. Follow signs for Limon Costa Rica- you will first cross over the National Park of Braulio Carrillo and through the cloud forest. At Limon follow the signs to Sixaola - then approximately 53 kilometres to Puerto Viejo. Hotel Cariblue is located on the right side, about a mile past Puerto Viejo in Playa Cocles.
